CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara/ Shadow Pencil Review & Swatches!

I thought I would share a few products that I have had for a while but finally feel like I have used them long enough to give you guys an accurate review. A few months ago, CoverGirl released their Flamed Out collection. It featured mascara, shadow pencils, and single eyeshadows. Months later, and I still have not been able to find the shadows ANYWHERE. So today I am sharing with you the mascara and one shade of the shadow pencils.

I will start by sharing my thoughts on the Shadow Stick first. I got the color 335, which is a shimmery olive green color with gold flecks in it.

Honestly, I was not as happy with this product as I hoped I would be. I absolutely love the color, as I do with most olive green eyeshadows. The fact that this came in a stick form seemed so convenient! I am a huge fan of the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils, and I really thought this would be similar to those. When I went to apply this product, I found out how wrong I was. I tried applying this straight to the lid, hoping to use it as somewhat of an eyeshadow base and it was SO hard to get any sort of color pay off. I think I may have rubbed my lid raw trying to get the color off this pencil. Just to get the swatch on my hand that you see above, took about 5 back and forth movements while pushing down quite hard.

I thought the problem might be the way I was applying it, so I tried to put an eyeshadow base down before. (I used Tarte's Amazonian Clay Waterproof Shadow Primer). While this did help the color pay off a little, there was not a big enough difference. Overall, the shadow pencils were a bust for me. I will keep it around to use every now and then because I love the color THAT much, but I don't think I will be rushing out to buy another.

Next up is the Flamed Out Waterproof Mascara in Very Black Blaze.

When I first purchased this product, I was not crazy about it. I used it about once a week and didn't really notice anything too spectacular about it that made me want to use it more. The color is not the blackest black, and the formula does not hold a curl well. However, I continued to use it once a week to see how the consistency changed over time and to pull enough info about it to do a review.

Then, about 2 weeks ago I went on vacation to Texas, where the humidity was between 89 and 93% every day in addition to the 85-100 degree weather. Spending a week in those temperatures really gave me some time to test out all of my makeup outside of Monterey (where it is cold year round). I will be completely honest and tell you that since that trip I have used this mascara every day. I am in LOVE!! The first day of my trip I used my Maybelline The Rocket Waterproof, which was my go-to day to day mascara, and it smudged all over the place. I looked like I was a raccoon... so bad. I switched to this on the second day and had absolutely ZERO smudging which was incredible! This mascara held up to my oily skin AND the insane temperatures like no body's business.

Although this mascara doesn't hold a curl, I like it just as much. Fortunately  I am one of the lucky people that has enough natural curl in my lashes, that even after my added curl fades, my lashes still look decent. Also, as an added note: I like this mascara even more now that air has gotten in it and it has thickened up a bit. I would definitely recommend this mascara to anyone and everyone, unless you have a problem with the whole non-curled lashes bit.

Overall, this collection (or what I managed to find of it) was filled with hits and misses. The shadow stick was definitely a big MISS for me, while the mascara was absolutely a HIT!

Have you guys tried any products from the Flamed Out Collection? What is your favorite mascara of the moment?
