2015 Style Inspiration
Many of you may not know that I started out as a beauty and fashion blogger. I have always loved fashion. My entire childhood I wanted to be a fashion designer. I researched design schools and was convinced that was what I would spend my life doing. As I got older, I flip flopped between design and styling, and during summers between my first couple years of college, I attended AAI and took classes toward a certification in fashion merchandising. I no longer want to work in fashion, but still appreciate it and love it as much as I always have.
A while back, I realized that I didn't know what my personal style was. It seemed like I was simply imitating the looks of others, and for that reason, I stopped blogging about style. (I also realized I absolutely hate makeup, so that was ditched as well.) Quickly after realizing this, I got sick and wore sweats for three months. Now, a year later, I finally feel like I know what my personal style is. I know what I feel comfortable in and stylish in, and isn't that all that really matters?
Now, I know my style is nothing new or special, but I'm in love with it. I'm still developing my style and building my wardrobe, so I thought it would be fun to share a little style inspiration and planning with you!
I've always preferred one article of clothing to be very loose and baggy. If I wear a fitted top, I wear loose bottoms, or a loose sweater. If I wear fitted bottoms, I wear a baggy top (which is usually the case). I have a rectangular shape, aka no curves (like a stick figure), so I like to choose my clothing accordingly. I only wear pants that show my ankles and I never wear skirts. I'm not crazy about patterns, but I am always open to trying something new. I tend to stick to solid neutrals with a small pop of one of the colors I list below. I am working on incorporating more dresses into my wardrobe and have fallen in love with t-shirt dresses (so comfy. need them all!).
My mom always used to describe my style as "intentional hobo." I used to take offense to that, but I totally embrace it these days (because I realized it's completely true)! I made a slight modification, and now describe my style as "intentional edgy hobo." Feel free to laugh at that, it sounds ridiculous. haha
Tops (simple, versatile)
Slip-on Tennis Shoes
Sporty Tennis Shoes
Large Leather Handbag
(I think this has always been my "color scheme" so nothing new here.)
I used to wear my momma's Birkenstocks around the house all the time when I was little. I've also always loved my clothes on the baggy side, so I am so excited this style is coming back in. haha
