The Birth of Made in Mojave

For YEARS I have been searching for a brand name. I’ve had many, but never one that fit my requirements - it had to have the ability to grow with me, it had to have meaning, it needed to make sense, it had to be able to encompass all parts of my brand and my endeavors (not just one), and it HAD to make me happy!

I started blogging back in 2008 (ish) and since that initial blog, my space on the internet has grown. I’ve had a handful of different names that came along with that growth, but never one that felt like home. I really thought I found “the one” when I finally gave in and became Noodoso. That brand name had meaning, it encompassed all parts of me and my life, and most importantly, it made me happy! Noodoso was the nickname my dad gave me when I was super little. It was my first email. It was my first social media “handle” and it finally felt RIGHT.

Fast forward about 5 years and I realized Noodoso was missing two very important factors - one, it didn’t make sense to most people. 98% of people didn’t know how to pronounce it, they didn’t know what it meant, and they didn’t realize that Suzanna Stein & Noodoso were even the same person! That’s when I knew I needed a change. I decided that since I am trying to grow my brand, make a name for myself in the creative and crafting industries, and eventually own a successful (profitable) brand, I would rebrand to Suzanna Josephine.

Practicality wise, it was perfect! It checked off most items on the list, was an easy transition, and didn’t feel like it disrupted anyone too much. Once the switch to Suzanna Josephine was made, I noticed a steep decline in my love of creating for my brand. I lacked motivation and drive to grow my brand, something I’ve always had and I started realizing my pride in myself and my brand was slipping.

That’s when it hit me - it was missing the most important factors of my “formula” for a perfect brand. It was missing meaning (other than being my name, obviously) and it didn’t bring me happiness.

For so long, I thought that rebranding more than once was unprofessional. It was flakey, confusing, and meant I could never run a successful business. That was… until this morning. God talked to me and gave me a real truth bomb - what’s the point of owning a brand, serving him, and sharing my story, if I’m doing so half-heartedly? No where does it say I can’t change my mind. No where does it say I cannot grow. No where does it say I am unsuccessful because I follow my heart.

Once God gave me that message it was up to me to listen or not - to put aside my own fears and feelings, and to listen to him. To trust him. Well friends, wouldn’t you know it. As soon as I made my final decision to start working toward a rebrand that would allow me to follow HIS plans for me and my brand, he placed the perfect brand name in my heart. And seriously, I mean perfect.

So it is with EXTREME happiness that I present to you: Made in Mojave. I could probably talk to you for days on why this name means so much to me, but I’ll save that for another post. For now, I’ll give you the condensed version. I was born and raised in the Mojave Desert. Everything that I am and the foundation that my life was created on was MADE in the Mojave Desert. I have such a deep rooted love of the desert and everything about it - I love joshua trees and tumbleweeds, I love the extreme dry heat and the freezing winter nights, I love that you can see every single star from your backyard, I love the lessons I learned from growing up in a place that everyone wanted to leave, I love the way my family hung out together and were best friends because there was seriously nothing to do, I love that when we were bored we went outside and played in the gorgeous space God created instead of sitting inside watching tv, and most of all, I love that God placed such a strong love of the desert in my heart, that even after years of being gone, I still love it just as much.

If you’re interested in the long version of that story, keep an eye out. I’ve already started writing it and am hoping to share it in February - one of my favorite months of the year!

So, let’s get into the more serious stuff - what does this mean for you? Honestly, it means absolutely nothing changes, except for the fact that things will get a little prettier around here (new logo and such), more content will be coming out, and you’ll get a fully-dedicated and happy Suzanna working behind the scenes!

As always, thank you thank you thank you to everyone that has supported me over the years, given me advice, read a blog post, liked a photo on Instagram, etc. Your love and encouragement keeps me going. I’d also like to thank anyone that is new around here. I’m so happy you took a chance on my little blog, clicked that link, and read this post. I hope you’ll stay and be a part of our community!

As cheesy as it sounds, this is just the beginning and I can already see SO many exciting things happening this year! In the mean time, I’d love to answer any questions you have below! Ask away and I’ll answer.

Big hugs,
