Tipsy Hot Chocolate
If you couldn't tell, I'm on a roll with these holiday posts! I was in a holiday slump - I wasn't really feeling in the holiday spirit, and this past weekend, it all hit me at once! I know some of y'all can relate, so I'm sharing these fun holiday posts during the most fun week of the year! This one is one of my favorites. Hot chocolate is great (it doesn't stand a chance next to coffee, but it tries). This tipsy hot chocolate is one of my favorite things to make for a cozy night watching Christmas movies, game night with friends, or just a sweet and tasty dessert!
What You'll Need
16 oz. Milk 1 Cinnamon Stick 2 tbs. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder 1/4 cup Powdered Sugar 2 oz. Peppermint Liqueur
All you have to do is combine all ingredients except the liqueur in a saucepan and warm it over the stove. Remove it from the heat and stir in the alcohol. You can use any kind of milk (I used almond milk and it was delicious), and any spirit!
This recipe initially calls for a couple drops of peppermint extract and 2 oz. tequila. For me, I like the alcohol to be very subtle and just give a little extra spice/warmth to the drink, so I modified it and just used a peppermint liqueur. But seriously, this recipe is so easy and so simple to modify depending on the spirit you'd like to use!
To garnish, I just used my milk frother on a little left over hot cocoa to make some pretty foam and crushed some candy canes to sprinkle on top. You could get really creative and go for a candy cane powder rim (like a marg!) by crushing the candy canes even more and sticking them to the rim with a simple syrup! Oh YUM!
I love this because it's not just a Christmas drink. This is a full winter beverage, and here in this household will be enjoyed well into the New Year! If you try it out be sure to tweet me or tag me on Instagram and let me know how it turned out!
